Wednesday November 7, 2018 Noon – 1PM

Host/producer Maria Vasquez Boyd welcomes Jerry Rapp, Jenny Hahn, Leigh Lynch, Paige O’Connor & Mallory Gobet with Youth Ambassadors to the program.

Artist and workshop facilitator Jenny Hahn captures the inward journey through bold expression and a vibrant palette. She received a BFA in illustration from the Kansas City Art Institute and exhibits her work nationally, working out of a studio in the Bauer Machine Works building in the KC Crossroads arts district. Her vibrant paintings are featured on book covers, CDs, magazine covers, and posters.
Jenny is the co-founder of Creative Nectar Studio—a safe haven for creative self-discovery—and facilitates process painting workshops across the country helping people rediscover their wholeness using painting as a tool for mindfulness and self-discovery. She is also one of the founding and contributing artists of the Unity Arts Ministry, a not-for-profit organization dedicated to creative expression as a path for spiritual living.
Jenny’s regular practices of Vipassana (insight meditation) and yoga inform her creative process and life. Her goal as an artist is to uplift and inspire with images that feed the heart and soul.

“Painting is my connection to the mystery. When I show up to the canvas, I am aware of a profound creative energy over which I have little control, but through which I am continually humbled and amazed as I let go and trust the process. I feel that I am co-creating with a force greater than myself. My work could be described as a mirror to a deep inner reality, as well as a reflection of the expansive universal. The deeper within we go, the more we find our innate oneness. My daily meditation practice and love of nature and color informs my process. I paint in vibrant color mostly using acrylics, either on stretched canvas or on board. Working layer upon layer, I allow the images and symbols to emerge organically and shift as they develop. It often feels like I’m receiving the image rather than creating it—like a midwife bringing new life into the world. My intention is that the work will speak to the viewer on a profound, soul level—stirring curiosity and instilling joy.”

Leigh Lynch-Arts in Prison To Bring Inmate Choir to Lawrence
Arts in Prison announces the East Hill Singers in concert. Sunday, November 11 at Plymouth Congregational, Lawrence, KS and Sunday, November 18 at St. Michael and All Angels, Mission, KS. Art exhibit opens at 3:00 and concert begins at 4:00pm.

The East Hill Singers is a men’s choir consisting of inmates from the minimum-security unit at Lansing Correctional Facility and volunteer singers from the greater Kansas City metropolitan area. This choir, under the direction of Dr. Joseph Kern, has been performing outside the prison walls for over 20 years.
On Sunday afternoon musicians, vocalists and concert goers come together to share a unique arts experience that is joyful, uplifting and focused on community benefit.

Every year close to 5,000 inmates are released from Kansas State Prisons. 99% of all men and women currently incarcerated will be returned to their communities. Activities like those provided by Arts in Prison offer the incarcerated outlets for positive expression, for success in pro-social projects and hope that there is a something better for them ahead. Arts in Prison founder, Elvera Voth believed that inmates are coming home and they could either return with “hope in their heart or hate in their eyes.”

Let the East Hill Singers raise your hopes and celebrate the good in humanity as they present “Conceived in Liberty”, featuring text by American Presidents and founding fathers.
